“A Most Terrible Wonder: Firearms from 1600-1900” Exhibit

New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road. Monday — Saturday 9 am - 5 pm, Sunday 12 noon - 5 pm. $5 adults, senior citizens (60 & over), $2 children ages 5-17 and children 4 and under are admitted free. 575-522-4100. www.nmfrhm.org/ or cmassey@frh.state.nm.us Opening reception - March 13, 6 pm to 8 pm. In conjunction with Cowboy Days, the museum will unveil a new exhibition featuring a variety of firearms from its collections that span three centuries. Refreshments and a lecture will be part of the evening. Presenting the lecture is Tad Vanderhye, a firearms expert from Lincoln County. His talk will focus on military firearms from 1855-1896 and he will bring a variety of swords, rifles and handguns to display. Admission is free for opening reception.

Enjoy our new-look Heritage Gallery

New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road. Monday - Saturday 9 am - 5 pm, Sunday 12 noon - 5 pm. http://www.nmfarmandranchmuseum.org/ or  cmassey@frh.state.nm.us  Dramatic changes have taken place in our Heritage Gallery over the past several months. A new 69-feet-long, 10-feet-tall mural depicting ancient agriculture in the area welcomes visitors into the gallery. Museum staff members worked with muralist Tony Pennock and several NMSU Students to create the colorful piece. Another addition to the gallery is the re-created mercantile that allows visitors to step back into another era.

White Sands National Monument, 45 miles east of Las Cruces, Highway 70. Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays at 8:30 pm. Entrance fee $3 per adult (15 years and under free). 575-679-2599 ext. 230 or 575-479-6124 ext. 236. http://www.nps.gov/whsa/ or john_mangimeli@nps.gov A 45-minute slide program or film at the amphitheater in the heart of the sands. Relax on a white sand dune and experience an entertaining look at the history or natural history of the area. Topics vary nightly. Runs through August 20.

Begins one hour before sunset. A leisurely one-hour ranger-guided walk. Experience sunset over the white sands and see the plants and animals of the dune field. A photographer's delight. Starts at sign along the Dunes Drive.
